General Hospital Protects Life Support Beds to Critical Patients using BPC PowerPro HP Range of Uninterruptible Power Supplies
Watford General Hospital is the centre for acute emergency care in west Hertfordshire offering a pioneering, consultant-led, rapid emergency service. The Hospital holds 383 beds and its main services include A&E, day hospital / day surgery, general medical / general surgical (emergency), geriatric / rehabilitation, family services – obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and maternity, ophthalmology, oral surgery and orthodontics.
Watford Hospital were looking for a product and service provider to advise and supply the equipment for a refurbishment of their intensive care unit. The UPS would be supporting the intensive care ward beds providing life support to critical patients of the hospital.
As a reseller of BPC power protection products UPS Systems Plc. came to Actual Power to provide a solution for Watford Hospitals critical Power Protection needs. The contract was awarded to supply two robust Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems from the BPC range. Therefore two BPC PowerPro High Performance three phase online double conversion 100kVA UPS, each providing one hour runtime backup in case of a mains failure were supplied.
The installation proved to be a challenging exercise as the UPS was installed by BPC using a hoisting system to lift the 770 kg UPS onto the roof of the hospital and then positioned into the roof top plant room.
